Upcoming stuff

Well it's the 1st of May. I've already seen the tool being used quite a lot to create awesome looking videos. I'm sure that in future the videos can be even more awesome once all the new features get in.

Rewriting the whole thing allowed me to rethink some things and make them better. The 1st person camera, for example, now works on infantry and every vehicle + I added better controller support. You can lock onto the weapon or the bones of the player model. If you're alone, you can make the 1p camera a freecamera, which allows you to film yourself running around etc.

I've also improved the 3p cameras a bit. Currently if you edit the 3p values, go to another vehicle and get its 3p values, you wouldn't be able to reset the first vehicle anymore. I've made it so it actually backs up the data when you first get the values for a vehicle. For example you get in a tank, it backs up the original values. Then you go to another vehicle and it backs up its values too. Now you go back to the tank, but this time it doesn't back up anything because the original data is already backed up. If you've edited the tank values, you can just click reset and it'll change the values to BF4 defaults. There will also be an indicator which tells you what vehicle you are editing. In spectator mode there are three different 3p cameras: infantry, vehicle and jet camera.

Earlier I posted a reminder not to use the tool on PB servers, because it is easily detected by PB. I changed some things and successfully removed the cause of the violation. I didn't do it to make it safe to use on PB servers, but rather to give people, who use it on PB servers either by accident or out of stupidity, a better chance of not getting banned. The tool can still be detected by PB, but it won't be as obvious as before.

Besides me there are two other people working on the program. Ricky (known from Blue Entertainment) is making an awesome-looking website for the tool and it's going to replace Blogger. I'll be sure to throw a link here once it's ready and then this site wont be used anymore. Another awesome person working on the project is wirrew. He is mostly known for his BF3 GUI concept  that got a lot of attention, but sadly DICE never seemed to respond to it AFAIK. Wirrew is redesigning the whole UI. It'll be prettier and, more importantly, a lot more user-friendlier than before.

I think that's all for now. If you use ECT to make an awesome video, feel free to give us even a tiny bit of credit. I don't demand it nor do I feel bad if you don't, but it'd be nice.

Reminder: Do not use on PB/FF Enabled servers

Decided to test and see if a PB Signature scanner could find anything, and it sure did. This is just to remind everyone that using the tool on PB/FF servers isn't a good idea. If you get unlucky, it will be detected as an "Attempted PunkBuster hack" and you will be banned globally from all ranked servers.

Switching to 64-bit

Just a heads up that I've started rewriting the Extended Cinematic Tools .dll file for 64-bit version of BF4 and the next release wont be until I've gotten that ready. I will probably stop updating the 32-bit version if there's no one that absolutely needs it. I also hope that rewriting the whole thing will make it more managed code-wise because the current project is a big mess.

Only thing that will change is that you don't have to launch in 32-bit and you need an injector that is capable of injecting to 64-bit programs. Oh and about the videos on my channel: You probably wont see anything in ECT that would be able to change emitters around or stop players, but the emitter timescale is planned.

BF4 Alternative Emblem Network

Here's something I think needs more publicity and users. BF4 AEN lets you have custom-made emblems by redirecting the EA Assets to their own. It's allowed, you can't get banned from it and at least DarkLord (DICE dev) said it's fine.

DLL Fix - 12.04.2014

-Removed the text that appears when the .dll gets injected. If you haven't been able to use this tool before because it crashed after injecting, this will hopefully resolve that.

Extended Cinematic Tools 31.3.2014

-Works with latest patch.
-Did some code changes to Color Correction and Outdoor Light. Hopefully they work on all maps now.
-Rotation speed of the freecamera can now be limited. Acceleration can be disabled, meaning that the camera always rotates at the limited speed regardless of how fast the mouse is moving.
-Automatic update check which will tell you when updates are available.

Extended Cinematic Tools 27.02.14

-Works with the latest patch
-If you're not getting values, be sure to run everything as an administrator, even BF4

+ Some interesting remarks
-Sometimes when changing color correction or Outdoor light settings, you must press esc twice before seeing the change
-DoF: Maps use either sprite or simple DoF. Dunno if there's a way to change which one to use.

As always DO NOT USE ON RANKED / PUNKBUSTER ENABLED SERVERS

Extended Cinema Tools and BF4 patches

Current users have probably noticed that the game has started crashing after the latest update.
Unless the patch is something very small, always expect it to break the tool. I'll fix it and post the new version on Friday or later this weekend.

Also, answers to some questions and problems:

Q: How do I close the tool properly so I can play on a ranked PB server?
A: Close the tool AND the game. Otherwise it'll still be active if you just join another server.

Q: Changes to color correction and sun rotation sometimes take time.
A: Press Esc twice, should show the changes.

Q: I'm not getting any values in the GUI.
A: Run everything as an administrator

Q: How do hotkeys work?
A: Hotkeys are for 1p camera only atm. Check the "Hotkeys" box and it should start working. Arrow keys to go forwards/backwards left/right, Numpad 7/9 is up/down, Numpad 8, 6, 4 and 2 is for rotation. I know it's messy, controller support coming at some point.

Q: Jet's/Helicopter's projectiles always fire to the middle of the screen even when rotating in 1p view.
A: Yeah It's pretty annoying. I'm working on an alternative rotating method that uses the freelook rotation instead. It'll still work with hotkeys.

Q: Game crashes after latest patch.
A: I know, wait for a fix.

Whatever

I'm quite busy and since it'd probably take ages to iron out all the bugs with the current amount of users (3 or so), I might as well release the tool now. Oh, do expect bugs..

It currently works only with the 32-bit version of BF4. To launch in 32-bit go to Origin, right-click BF4, click Game Properties and choose Battlefield 4 (x86) from the list.

Be sure to launch everything as an administrator. Launch the game, inject "BF4ExtCineTool.dll" to BF4 using Faith Injector and then start "Extended Cinematic Tools.exe" and you should be able to use the tool.
Injecting with Faith injector is easy: Run it as an administrator, press Add to add the .dll file and then from Process -> "Show process list", choose BF4_x86.exe and press inject.

Do NOT use on Punkbuster or FairFight enabled servers.
I wont be taking any responsibility if you use this on a PB enabled server and get banned

1p Camera hotkeys: Arrow keys to move around, Numpad 7/9 Up/Down, Numpad 8,6,4,2 for rotation.
If you're recording Freecamera tracks USE THE FIRST FREECAMERA.

Bugs or ideas? Write them to comments!

Things to do

  • Detect end-of-round so it disables everything and gets the new visual environment once the map is done loading.
    • Tends to crash between rounds + if you reset the visual stuff in the new map it'll take the values from the previous map.
  • Make 1st Person mode work for spectators
    • It would work fine, but for some reason you can't change the camera to 3rd person mode in spectator mode. Looking for alternative methods...
  • Make sure everything works
  • Create a 64-bit version
    • So far everything else seems to work except the hooks. For some reason the APIs I've tried don't do anything or they crash the game.
  • Release

Also gave the GUI some darker colors. Dark themes ftw

Still alive

The x86 version of the tool is nearly done.
However I lack the motivation to finish it + final exams are coming up in 2 months so that makes me even more stressed and unmotivated to do anything. So no ETA.
